Harley

Harley

Hi! I know it’s been a while since Harley (formerly Tom Nix) was in your care, but I wanted to give an exciting update. He’s a big brother! I adopted little Pike in October. Harley wasn’t so sure for the first week, but it didn’t take him long to love her. Now they are inseparable!

These past 3 years with Harley have been the very best, and I’m so excited for the next chapter with him. It warms my heart every day to see them interact. This wouldn’t have been possible without all of you at Lucky’s Place, so I wanted to again extend my sincerest gratitude. You guys are the best!

All of the other success stories were the last push I needed to adopt Harley, so maybe we will do the same for another family. Take care!!                                                                                                                   -Alleyna

Belle Anne

Belle Anne

Thank you so much for letting me adopt Bells! Her name has changed just a little – to Belle Anne. She is the joy of my life these days. We absolutely adore each other!

She has quickly learned proper puppy potty habits and asks to go out in the yard at potty time. She loves learning new things – like sit, lie down, come, downstairs, outside, load up and, most of all, good girl!!

She loves her crates (she has three of course: living room, bedroom and car) and now when she is sleepy, she goes in whichever is available and takes her nap in her cozy den. Every evening, she crawls up on my lap and goes to sleep.

We have gone on several walks on her leash, and she does very well. She has great fun smelling everything and exploring new places. She has a new warm puppy coat. We just got her a new bigger one as she is growing by leaps and bounds. On very cold days we keep warm by the fire and let winter roar outside.

You are a wonderful shelter, and I love that you go to such great effort to save pets who need your help. You are the best!                                                                           Much love, Martha and Belle Anne

Kittens

Kittens

I thought you might want to hear how the kittens are doing. I have attached a couple of pictures of them for you.

It turns out the dogs were no problem at all. In fact, Birdie, the one I was the most concerned about, has decided she is their mother. She won’t let them out of her sight! I keep them closed in my office at night so that we can get some sleep, and if I take too long to get back there and open the door each morning, she is laying by the door crying to get in. The other dog doesn’t seem to care one way or the other, as long as he doesn’t have to do anything with them. Completely the opposite of what I expected!

They have been a real joy. They follow me everywhere I go, and the smaller one likes to come up behind me and jump on my back and climb onto my shoulder. We are having a lot of fun with them.

The pictures show the two of them curled up together, and a picture of one sleeping next to Birdie on the couch.

Hank the Tank

Hank the Tank

Hank the Tank (formerly Douglas) was found in the woods by three very kind ladies who were camping out there. Since no one else was around, they just couldn’t leave him there.

They brought him to Lucky’s Place.

He was about four months old and stayed at the shelter for about two months. Then, he went on an adventure to Seattle, WA to begin living his best life with his wonderful forever family.

Walter

Walter

My family took me on a camping trip from my home in Arkansas to Wyoming. On July 28, 2023, I went missing. I crawled out of the sunroof during a storm in an area
known as the Palisades.

Well, back before I was rescued by Bridget, my first family left me when they moved away. I had to learn pretty quickly how to catch crickets, birds and field mice if I was going to survive. It wasn’t until almost a year later that Bridget found me on the front porch of that house and took me home with her. She would tell you it was love at first sight!

Today I give thanks. Thanks to Bridget for never, ever giving up hope. You see, Bridget had a wonderful dog that had been with her a long time. He was a sweet dog, but he could no longer hear or see, so I took it upon myself to be his eyes and ears. The two of us were quite a sight in the neighborhood as I would herd him along the sidewalk and back home. Bridget will tell you that I helped her get thru the passing of her dog, but you know what, I think she helped me even more.

When I got lost in July, all those old hunting skills of mine from back in the day sure came in handy. Fortunately, I was able to fend for myself by hunting small birds, voles, squirrels, crickets and other insects and was pretty good at hiding from eagles, owls, foxes…and other predators. But in December, when it got really cold and snow began falling, I somehow found my way to Christine’s front porch. My leg was caught in my collar and I’m sure I looked pretty skinny, sad and worn out. Christine let me forage in her recycle/compost until she took me in with real cat food (mmmmm). She knew that my purple flea collar meant someone, somewhere must be missing me. She got me to Dr. Tina, the local Vet, to see if I was all ok and then took me to Lucky’s Place. But wait for it…when Mary Ann, the Director at Lucky’s Place, got word someone had found a cat with a purple flea collar, she remembered someone having lost a cat in the Palisades in the summer. Can you believe it!?  Which brings me to today.

Thank you
…to Christine for gaining my trust with food and shelter when I showed up on her doorstep and especially for scooping me up and getting me to Lucky’s Place.
…to Mary Ann at Lucky’s Place for her great memory and for calling Bridget on Jan. 29th to describe me to her. Needless to say, there were a lot of joyful tears on that phone call. When I heard Bridget talking to me, man, oh man, did I purr!
…to the team at Lucky’s Place.
…to Jeannette for fostering and loving on me
…to the team that posted on Facebook to see if someone could get me to Arizona.
…to Christa who drove me all the way to the Jackson Airport to catch my flight!
…to Delta Airlines for allowing pets to fly
…and to Maurine for being my travel companion.
With love and gratitude,
Walter

Skye Blue

Skye Blue

Here are a couple of pictures of Skye Blue (formerly Cranberry). She has been checking everything out and our other two have been so far welcoming. We will check in with more soon.

We decided to name her Skye Blue because of her eyes. Also, my Molly is looking down from the rainbow bridge in the sky.

Can’t thank you enough!!! We will let everyone know what a great experience we had through this whole process!!

Thank you, Lisa & Arnold

Kate and Buckaroo

Kate and Buckaroo

Oh, my fur buddies are fabulous. We renamed them Harold and Maude, after said movie. They are food motivated, for sure, so training and manners improvement has been rapid. They love going with me EVERYWHERE. So, all is good with this multi-species family.

Thank you for all you do. They were lucky they landed with your organization.

Sherlock

Sherlock

We are sorry to report that our sweet Sherlock passed away today from renal failure. He was about two years old when we adopted him in 2011, so we estimate he was about 15 years old. I’ll always remember the day I was working at your shelter on a Saturday and a nice lady from Etna brought him in because she was moving and could not take him with her. There was no available space for Sherlock at the shelter that day, so I asked her to fill out the paperwork and that we’d let her know when we had room for him. I secretly took her phone number home with me and after Jake returned home from a business trip, we called her and arranged to meet “Toughy” as she called him. We changed his name to Sherlock soon after we took him home. When I saw that sweet face through the door on the cat carrier, I just knew he was the right replacement for our Linus who had passed earlier that year (2011). We lost our precious Benny earlier this year, but we still have our three-legged sweet Nicky who talks constantly – a great comfort to us. We rescued Nicky from Bridger Animal Hospital after he was mauled by a dog on Christmas Day in 2013. Dr. Black was the on-call physician that day who saved Nicky’s life. Sherlock was being boarded there while we were in Florida for the holidays, so he took Nicky under his wing and looked over him while he was recovering from leg amputation. They bonded very quickly and became best friends. We’ve been so fortunate to have had the most loving and sweet pets that we’ll cherish forever.

Thank you for all you do to save and care for all those beautiful creatures.      L&J

Harry

Harry

Harry was rescued by people heading to Canada on vacation.  He was in the middle of the highway, so they picked him up and brought him to Lucky’s Place.  He was at the shelter for a few weeks, and then he went to a foster home for two weeks.  The people returned from their Canadian vacation and adopted him.  He is Midwest-bound and loving life.  They love Harry!

Kyko

Kyko

Good morning!

Kyko has been a sweetheart.  I love him.  He doesn’t seem to like stairs, which was interesting. We have already had two walks this morning and vole hunting!

Thanks so much for your staff and you setting me up with Kyko.
